Dorset and Devon Coast (9): Bantham

Dorset and Devon Coast Trip, Day 11 (Tue 18th May 2021)

Leaving the Dartmouth Camping and Caravanning Club site, our next overnight was planned for Bigbury-on-Sea, but we decided to visit the village of Bantham first.  Bantham is a tiny village with a few thatched cottages and a pub, as well as a fine beach situated alongside the river Avon estuary.

The journey down to the village was a little tight at times, but well worth the effort.  The village and beach are part of the Bantham Estate, and there is a charge for parking of £6.50 per day, but there is plenty of room for parking, toilets and a fast food vendor and a lifeguard on the beach.  We found a lovely, clean sandy beach with fine views over to Burgh Island.

After exploring the beach, we decided to walk along the cliff-top path to the east of the beach.  This runs alongside a golf course for some of the way, but it offers spectacular views along the coastline in both directions, including across to Burgh Island and beyond.
