We finally made it to Great Budworth, albeit only for an overnight stay on our way to Llangollen for the weekend. This was a weekend meeting of the Camping and Caravan Club, BCC Cheshire Section. We did not know what “BCC” stood for and later found out that it was the British Caravanners Club Section, Cheshire Branch. As the owners of a British-built motorhome, we hoped that we would be accepted, but I don’t think it really mattered as no questions were asked and we were made to feel very welcome even though we were the only motorhome present.

The site is called “Heron’s Nest” and it has a nice view over Budworth Mere.
After getting parked (pitched), we went for a walk to the beautiful village of Great Budworth itself. On our way there, we came across this hut at the crossroads.

Inside was a spring, with a carved inscription above it:

The village has a picturesque charm.

St Mary and All Saints Church is an impressive building which is clearly quite old. Built of sandstone, it has suffered at the hands of the weather over the years and the tower is in the process of being renovated.

It is a lovely, peaceful place, the churchyard has a number of mature yew trees and the church building has many examples of faces carved into the stone fabric.
