Hawes, Shaw Gill Wood & Stags Fell Quarries; A good walk

Our walk took us from Hawes, up to the village of Hardraw, then through Shaw Gill Wood, rising up to the disused quarries on the side of Stags Fell before returning back the way we had come, to Hawes.

The weather was changeable, with some horizontal rain showers, surprisingly strong winds and sunny spells, but this provided some interesting light for the photographs.

A very ornate bench, dedicated to Lawrence Edward Dewes, who died in 2019.

We continued to climb, passing the Simonstone Hotel on our right.

Turning left along the road, after about 100 yards we entered Shaw Gill Wood.

Leaving the wood behind, we climbed up towards Stag Fell

The light playing on the landscape was magical
