East of England (2): King’s Lynn

Continuing on our mini break in the East of England, we stopped for a while to explore the town of King’s Lynn.

The shopping centre is like stepping back in time. There are a number of old and interesting buildings, but I have not seen a Wimpy for years.

I enjoy looking for characters carved into the stonework. They provide a real connection to the mason, over the centuries. There are a number of examples, here are just a couple:

The town sits on the River Great Ouse and used to be a thriving port. There are still some fishing boats based there.

Purfleet Quay is also the site of the old customs house (seen in the background of the above photograph).
