Wombourne, Staffordshire

Wed 20th – Fri 22nd October 2022

We planned a visit to the National Exhibition Centre on Thursday, for the Motorhome and Caravan Show with our motorhoming friends Jeeves and Michelle, and stayed for two nights at Halfpenny Estate Vineyard, near Wombourne where they live.

View over Ha’penny Estate Vineyard in the rain

Over the last few years we have visited quite a few vineyards, but never in England, always in France. The vineyard sits in beautiful countryside and has won many awards for its wines. It is a part of the “Britstop” scheme, which allows overnight stays by motorhomes on the carpark at minimum cost. There is a cafe and shop which sells a wide range of merchandise, (including wine of course). Also a number of small independent retailers selling mainly craft items.

Autumn is beginning to show in the vine leaves

The trip to the NEC was interesting, but the trip was marred by traffic problems, taking almost three hours in heavy rain, for a journey which should have taken around an hour. Whilst there, we looked at many fancy new motorhomes, but didn’t see anything to tempt us to part with Fufu!

Highgate Common

On Friday, we went for a short walk on Highgate Common with Jeeves, Michelle and Layla, before visiting the local antiques centre at Wolverhampton Halfpenny Green Airport which had an old RAF jet parked near the entrance.
