European Trip 4: Titisee, Black Forest, Germany

Friday 20th September 2024 (day 7)

We got moving quite promptly this morning to cross the Rhine into Germany and arrived at our destination, Titisee, with time to explore the town and to ensure we had space on the motorhome parking area.

Homer and Fufu at Titisee. The motorhome in the distance is accessing the services.

We shared the parking area with another visitor from the UK:

In the event, there was plenty of space and although very pretty, Titisee is just a small village at the end of a lake, which is its main attraction, so it did not take very long to explore.

This could almost be Lake Windermere

Tourists can hire a small motorboat or take a trip on a larger vessel around the lake. There are many souvenir shops, all offering much the same range of goods.

Almost all of the souvenir shops have a large range of cuckoo clocks on sale. Some are amazingly detailed with superb craftsmanship, costing up to 4000€.

My eye was taken with the clock below, which even had a stork nesting on the chimney:

We were not tempted. To be honest, whether they just made the traditional cuckoo sound or gave a mechanical piano-accordion tune every 15 minutes, it would quickly drive me crazy.

Even one of the buildings chimed every 15 minutes!

There were some other shops, some selling expensive Swiss watches…

…and others selling, amongst other things, witches. A bit far from Pendle Hill country!

What was noticeable is the huge change in architectural style from our last stop:

I guess we will see much more of this style of building as we head further south, tomorrow.
