Sunday 29th September 2024 (day 16)
Lake Garda:
We left Camping Lombardi Sosta at Malcesine reasonably early to travel down the shore of Lake Garda before it became too busy.

Too late, it was already busy and, I assume, likely to get busier.

The main problem for photographs is the complete lack of places to stop. There are some car parking areas, but they mostly seem to have height barriers, preventing our entry. Although I did manage to stop a couple of times, for the most part, Alison was charged with the task of taking some photos through Fufu’s windscreen as we drove along.

Soave, near Verona:
Our destination for the overnight stay, was a small town near Verona, called Soave. It is a fortified town with a castle built on the hill above. The origins of the castle are thought to be in the 10th century and completed in the middle ages.

To visit the castle costs just 7€ each. The views alone are well worth it, but there are some rooms which were residential. The captain of the castle had four lavishly decorated rooms including a bedroom and a dining room.

The town is famous for its white wine and the grape harvest was being celebrated at the time of our visit.

When were on our way back from behind the castle, a couple were having their wedding photos taken on the drawbridge, whilst their car waited:

One of the town gates was decorated appropriately, with a cart above in the tower, a grape press and many bunches of grapes hanging from the roof in the entrance:

When we walked back up to the park-up area through the town centre, there was an event with many women dancing through the street wearing headphones and clapping enthusiastically. It was called “Street Workout”.

Tomorrow, we move on to our campsite near Venice.
