Portugal Trip 8; Monsaraz

Sunday 13th April 2025

Today, we have headed east and slightly to the south, of Evora, where we spent the night, to the stunningly beautiful hill-top, medieval town of Monsaraz with its fortifications, white-walled buildings and steep, narrow cobbled streets.

Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Lagoa

Being at the top of a hill, there are fine views of the surrounding countryside, looking over the Alqueva Dam lake, which is the largest reservoir in Europe and in places forms the border between Spain and Portugal.

Dining with a view

I thought that the bike below had an interesting saddle. I have one on order for Alison’s bike as she has been complaining that her current seat might be a little kinder on her rear.

At the hill summit, there is a 11th century castle (pictured below) and in the general area, there are many prehistoric monuments, including menhirs and dolmens, reflecting that the area has been inhabited for thousands of years.

As usual, following our exploration, we enjoyed a glass of refreshment. This time in the shadow of the castle:

See u later. TTFN.
