Portugal Trip 17: Odeceixe Beach, Cabo Sardão, and Vila Nova de Milfontes.

Wednesday 23rd April 2025

We had spent the night on a village motorhome park-up, at Odeceixe, which was fine. It cost 12€ including electricity and other services. The main problem we had was in getting to the site as the main N120 road was closed just outside the village and the diversion signs were to say the least, confusing.

Odeceixe Beach:

This morning, we planned to head further north up the Portuguese coast towards our planned stop-over at Alentejo Litoral Caravan Park, but first, we had a look at the nearby Odeceixe Beach, which is a bit of a surfer’s paradise with some good-sized waves coming in:

Cabo Sardão:

Heading further north, we stopped at Cabo Sardão, where there is another lighthouse. But this was not the main attraction. The high cliffs and dramatic rock formations were the stars:

There were also storks nesting on the rock pinnacles below us. One had two chicks that we could see:

Vila Nova de Milfontes:

Our third stop on our journey north, was at the small picturesque town of Vila Nova de Milfontes. Set in a beautiful estuary, the town has a castle built almost on the beach.

Judging by the number of chimneys here, it must get cold at times.

The beach is beautiful, with views out over the estuary to the ocean:

The sea is so clear that it looks like the boat is floating above the water:
