Portugal Trip 28: Baiona, Spain.

Sunday 4th May 2025

Today, after wishing our motorhoming buddies, Jeeves, Michelle and their cockapoo, Layla, a safe journey, we parted company at Ponte de Lima, as they took a more direct route back towards Santander for the ferry. We have moved further north and back to the coast, leaving Portugal for Spain. Perhaps future posts for this trip need the title amending.

A more gentle landscape here, than further south with its dramatic cliffs.

We headed for the Spanish coast and two things happened. The first was that we lost an hour as Spain is an hour ahead of Portugal (which is in the same time zone as the UK), and the second was that we found ourselves encountering many pilgrims completing the Camiño de Santiago. We spoke to one of them as we stopped to take in the views.

Rita traveled from Perth in Australia to complete the pilgrimage and had started in Portugal. We wish her well.

The landscape here is very beautiful:

Our plan for the day, was to visit the small coastal town of Baiona, which had been recommended by a friend, Jonathan. A good shout as it happens, as the town is quite interesting and picturesque. It has a marina, a sheltered bay and lovely sandy beaches.

Baiona has a castle, which is undergoing some renovation. This section looks like new.

Our park-up for the night is a little north of Baiona, with an lovely view over the beach and a sculpture of a whale:

A quite unique dwelling on the seafront

After a really pleasant day with fine weather, we decided to finish with a stroll along the beach to watch the sunset. What we did not expect was a close encounter with a wild boar!

A little too close for comfort!

Fortunately, when it took a look at the two of us, it decided we were not interesting and turned away into the long reeded area behind.

We did have a nice sunset though.

That is it for today. Goodnight. See u Later, TTFN.
