Lincoln and its Cathedral

Monday 18th August 2025

We traveled to Lincoln by bus which dropped us off at the bus station, so we then caught another to the top of the hill, just near the cathedral. I remember that hill from the last time we visited the city!

The Cathedral:

Our main aim was to visit the cathedral, which we didn’t do on our last visit.

The nave

Like many medieval gothic cathedrals, Lincoln is very large and very ornate. Work to maintain the fabric of the building goes on year on year, I think just to stand still in terms of keeping up with the wear and tear. There is a permanent workforce of specialist craftsmen and women.

The choir has very ornate stalls, some of which have suffered at the hands of bored choristers over the years.

The City:

There art lots of old and interesting buildings in the city, which has a very long history. The road down from the cathedral is called “Steep Hill” an accurate description, (and why we caught the bus up).

At the top of Steep Hill.

Towards the bottom of the hill are some medieval buildings which are traditionally Jewish:

The Jews House Restaurant in Jews Court. The synagogue is next door.

The main shopping area is at the bottom of the hill.

The musicians on the canal bridge were very accomplished.

That is all for today. See-u-later and TTFN.
