For this outing, we left Fufu at home as Tatton Park is only about an hour’s drive from where we live. Although reasonably close, It is many years since we visited and we were surprised by the extent of the house and gardens.

The Tatton estate is managed by Cheshire East council on behalf of the National Trust. Although access to the house is free for Trust members, the council charge £10 for parking.
At the time of the visit, the National Trust had placed large, decorated bear sculptures around the gardens, which provided additional interest for the children (and adults) visiting. These are not permanent and sadly, the bear sculptures were due to be removed a few days after our visit.

There was also a vintage fairground ride and some historic vehicles.

The gardens are beautiful and interesting to explore, though at this time of year, they are clearly past their best.

There is a Japanese garden which is closed to general visits, but you can pay £5 for a guided tour. I took these photos from outside the garden:

The house is well worth the time spent exploring.

There is an extensive art collection, including these two views of Venice, by Canaletto:

…and some beautiful pieces of furniture, including this chess table.

There is a fine collection of china by Minton and Royal Worcester:

There are also extensive servant’s quarters, cellars and service areas to explore:

That is all for today. TTFN and See-u-later.
