The Ardèche Gorge and the village of Aigueze, France

Thursday 25th September 2025

With fine weather, we traveled further south today, choosing to travel down the Ardèche Gorge to our overnight stay at Aigueze.

The Ardèche Gorge:

The Ardèche river runs 125 kilometres in a south easterly direction from the Massif Central until it joins the Rhone. In its lower reaches, it has carved a deep ravine in the surrounding landscape which is primarily limestone, resulting in some dramatic scenery.

Just downstream of the town of Vallon Pont d’Arc, is a rock bridge, which is one of only two such natural bridges across a river in the world.

Le Pont d’Arc
There were many canoeists passing through.

Further along on our high route through the gorge, there were many places to stop and admire the view. There are just a few of them below:

We also encountered some goats, who were not interesting in moving for the traffic. We had to thread our way through them.

Aigueze:

The small village of Aigueze is a very picturesque medieval settlement which is another designated “Beau Village”.

View down the river from the village ramparts.

Our park-up is a designated Aire de Camping Car” which has no services but is sited in a small area of woodland on the edge of the village. An overnight stay costs just 6 €.

We enjoyed a swift beer in the village square as it grew dark.

Cheers!

That is it for today. TTFN and See-u-later.

    1. Thank you for the positive feedback Mélodie.
We are continually delighted with the beauty and variety of the French countryside. We have been visiting for many years now, most recently by motorhome, and I constantly find something new.
I know you love the English Lake District (we actually live near there), but there is so much more of everything in France.
      Regards
      Peter
