Alby-sur-Chéran, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Tuesday 7th October 2025

Just a short blog post this time.

Heading further north and east, we settled on an overnight at the delightful little medieval village of Alby-sur-Chéran.

The River Chéran, with bridge over, joining the two parts of the village.

The village is sited in a steep sided valley through which the Chéran river flows. Narrow, steep streets are therefore the order of the day. The village sits astride the river.

After struggling to park on the designated aire, which although advertised as having 5 places, had in fact just two, (the others had been converted into a disabled bay and two electric charging stations), and the two remaining places were both occupied by cars. We did find space opposite the cemetery and after checking that it is OK to stay there, left Fufu and went to explore the village.

The road up to the square from the bridge

Alby-sur-Chéran is charming and when we were there, there was a weekly evening market being set-up in the square, adding to the atmosphere.

The Marie (town hall)

We also visited the very modern church which has an interesting bell tower and some attractive stained glass:

That is the lot for today. TTFN and see-u-later.
