Xaló
Being New Year’s Eve, many places were closed, but we visited the small town of Xaló where the Bodega was open for wine sales.

After making some purchases, we had a wander around the town, arriving just about 12 noon, when the church bells started ringing a full peel. It was really loud as the bells are all exposed on the bell tower.

The church forms a part of the town square. Like so many Roman Catholic churches in this area, the interior of the church is quite ornate:

Xàbia
We then moved on to Xàbia, (also known as Jávea) where we revisited a restaurant for a superb 3 course lunch and a wander up the promenade to the harbour.

I mentioned the Molins De La Plana in the Spain Trip 9 blog post. Before leaving the town, we went to take a closer look.

Although a couple of the mills were in private ownership, others were on open land:

Once again we were treated to glorious views over the town and the coast.

Calpe, New Year’s Eve
After returning to the site in Calpe and chilling for a while, we met up again with Jeeves and Michelle, before going to the beach to see the New Year in. This was the first time I had done this in any country other than the UK, and here, it is worth noting that 2024 began an hour earlier than at home.

Along the sea-front there were people celebrating and promenading. There were also lots of fireworks being set off on the beach. I had wondered at the wisdom of fireworks in an area which has seen no rain for at least 4 months, but obviously the beach was a good choice.
