European Trip 20: Prague day 1, Czechia.

Friday 11th October 2024 (day 28)

Just a short-ish post blog-today. We plan to spend a few days here in Prague and our first impressions are positive. Our journey from Slapy was however, a bit of an ordeal, with driving rain and spray to deal with for most of the way. The road system is very complicated and each road seems to have several numbers. There is also a lot of traffic.

After some careful navigation we found the motorhome stellplatz and with some relief, we parked-up and plugged-in. Electricity and other services are included in the price, which is advertised at 20€ per night. You take a ticket on entry and present the barcode on this to a machine next to the barrier when you leave. There is an office, but it was not staffed when we arrived.

The cycle/footbridge

After some lunch, the rain all but stopped, so we had a walk along the river bank, after crossing via a handy footbridge. There is an island in the river at this point, so you can take an off-ramp half-way across:

The view upstream from the bridge

All along the river bank there is a good cycle/footpath and we chose to walk upstream to the west.

There is a weir to maintain the water level, and below it, a canoe slalom course. At the top of the course, there were some young men surfing the constant wave passing over the weir, showing some skill and bravado.

This building is at the upper end of the river island.

We also came across a children’s playground provided by the Ministry of Transport, which simulated lots of different road hazards for them to learn about.

Further along there are many ferry boats offering sightseeing rides on the river at quite reasonable prices. There were also other boats that were being used as restaurants and music bars.

Everything is a little further to walk than it looks on the map and we were out a good couple of hours, returning via the same route. Tomorrow, we will likely be taking the tram, which by all accounts, provides an excellent service.

TTFN. See you later.
