Portugal / Spain Trip 40: Cartes, Santander and a Summary.

Sunday 18th and Monday 19th May 2025

Cartes:

As we had a little time to spare before heading for Santander and the ferry, we took the slow road north from Barcena Pie de Concha and after re-fueling Fufu, briefly visited Cartes, a small but really picturesque town with many medieval buildings and wonderful character.

Santander:

After boarding the ferry, I did as usual and looked around for things to photograph as we sailed out of the port. Anything remotely of interest is fair game:

Goodbye Spain, we hope to be back soon.

Some Statistics:

I have listed a few facts about our trip below:

  • We set off from home on the 4th April and arrived home on the 20th May; a total of 47 days.
  • It has been a very economical trip. Most of our overnight parking has been free (often including services), both in Portugal and Spain, which means that we have only spent 85.50 € on site fees / services in total.
  • We have covered 3,180 miles and spent £633 on diesel and about £40 on LPG (used for cooking, heating and the fridge).

Highlights:

This was an amazing trip for us. We enjoyed so much of our time away, both in Portugal and Spain and we would be happy to return. There were:…..

…Castles in abundance:

…Beautiful villages, towns and cities:

…Various wildlife, including the many storks we saw:

…Picturesque, old, decaying infrastructure:

…Amazing rock formations:

…Elaborately decorated churches and other religious settings:

…Huge dams and viaducts:

…Beautiful landscapes:

…and very pleasant refreshments. Cheers!

That is all for now. See u Later and TTFN.

    1. Hi again and thank you for your positive feedback.
Of course I did not detail all of the costs. Ferries, some motorway tolls, food, drink, etc. Some of which we would be paying anyway. Of course being in a motorhome means you can just shop locally instead of eating out. Alison says, driver goes full board, passenger goes self catering.
It was still a very economical trip.

      1. You’re welcome! No I agree, there will be other costs, but if you’re savvy your food costs, they shouldn’t be much more than they would be if you were staying at home. It certainly gives me a great indication on budgets should we decide to try going abroad in our van one day 🙂

      2. I encourage you to take the plunge as far as motorhoming in Europe is concerned. They are much better set up for it than in the UK.
        Regards
        Peter
