We visited Chartwell as a stop to break the journey to Dover and the ferry. As it is not far from the M25, this worked well.

The house is in the care of the National Trust, who have created a museum to the life of Sir Winston Churchill in the place he lived for much of his adult life. The house and gardens are beautiful and are in a superb location.

Much of the furniture is that which was in the house when he lived there.

Churchill was a polymath who in addition to his amazing military and political careers wrote extensively and painted many paintings. He seemed to fit in achievements for more than one lifetime, yet still famously suffered bouts of depression.

Painting seemed to be his therapy and many of his paintings are displayed in the studio where he created them.

We enjoyed a really informative talk about Churchill’s paintings by one of the NT volunteers in the studio. He was excellent and also entertaining.
That is all for today. TTFN and see-u-later.

Love the photo of the garden with all the flowers and the painting studio.

Yes it is a lovely calm space. I imagine Winston Churchill valued this aspect.
