Troyes is a beautiful, compact city in the Grand Est Region of France. It is known for its many half timbered and colourful , medieval buildings. We are staying the night on an excellent paid aire with all the services, just on the outskirts of the city.

Lots of the buildings are extremely wonky:

Some buildings are built so close to each other that despite a gap, they rely on each other for support:

Like other medieval cities, it has an amazingly ornate cathedral, but I have only shown a few images of this one, due to the potential for overload.

Troyes is famous for stained glass and this was a centre of excellence even in medieval times. We visited the museum dedicated to this craft, which traced the history of stained glass over hundreds of years.

As a part of this museum, there is also an apothecary exhibit:

It is really pleasant to wander around the city centre with many squares, sculptures and fountains:

On our way back to the aire, we passed the stadium, where a team of motorcycle footballers were practising …at speed. I have never seen this sport before, goodness knows what the carnage is like in a game.

That is all for today. TTFN and See-u-later.

Another interesting post. I’ve stayed in Troyes and loved it!

Thanks for your comment Keith.
Yes, I think it is one of the best places we have stayed in France.

Yes, there were many buildings that had waht appears to be an alarming lean. I discussed this with a historian when I visited Little Moreton Hall in the UK. He said it would have been straight when it was built, but over time, oak timber framing moves.
