Annecy, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Wednesday 8th October 2025

The city of Annecy has been on our list of places to visit for some time. We wanted to see if it would live up to its nickname of “The Pearl of the French Alps”.

Lake Annecy

We are staying around 2 Km away from the city centre, down the lake, so we cycled there, taking the lakeside cycle path which was picturesque.

As usual I took lots of photographs as we wandered around the town, many of which are posted below, so I let you be the judge of whether it lives up to its nickname.

Château d’Annecy

The Palais de l’Isle, is a 12th century castle on an island in the river Thiou, which exits Lake Annecy to run through the middle of the city.

There are many churches in the city, including a cathedral, which we visited in addition to the impressive Church of Notre Dame:

There are lots of beautiful shops through this part of the city. Below, are a spice shop which smelled wonderfully, and a patisserie selling edible works of art:

Well, what do you think? Does Annecy live up to the hype? (feel free to comment).

That is it for today. TTFN and see-u-later.
